Yasumasa “Yasu” “Richard” Asato, 83, of Hawi died April 23, 2013, at his home. Born in Kohala, he was a retired truck driver for the former P.R.I., retired employee of Takata Store, member of the Hawi Jodo Mission and former member of the Kohala Senior Citizens Softball Team.

Private services are planned on Oahu. Family requests no flowers.

He is survived by sons, Rollins (Terri) Asato of Honolulu, Elgin (Wilma) Asato of Kohala; daughter, Maris (Christopher Saplad) Asato of Hilo; brothers, Yasuo (Diana) Asato and Edward (Sue) Asato, both of Honolulu, Harry Asato of California; sister, Mildred Nakata of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
